Bob Freier
Founder and Presiden
Bob Freier is the Founder and President of District Leadership Search Consultants and was previously the co-founder of District Wise Search Consultants. He has been recruiting and placing Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, and Principals for more than nineteen years, partnering closely with Boards of Education and school communities to identify and secure outstanding educational leaders.
In addition to his work in education, Bob brings over 30 years of executive recruiting and business-building experience in the technology sector, where he helped form and scale successful high-technology companies and matched entrepreneurs with venture capital partners.
Bob is a former School Board member (2008–2012) and has been actively involved in the hiring and evaluation of administrative staff, giving him a practical, governance-level perspective on leadership selection.
Mark Kamberg
Principal Associate
Mark Kamberg is an Associate with District Leadership Search Consultants and was previously part of the District Wise Search Consultants team. He brings more than three decades of experience in contract negotiations, conflict management, and relationship building as the owner of S. Kamberg & Company.
Mark has served on his School District Board of Education since 2008 and is currently the President of the Board—a role he has held for the past eighteen years. His extensive Board leadership experience includes active involvement in the hiring and evaluation of Superintendents, central office administrators, and building-level leaders.
In addition to his Board service, Mark is a NYSSBA workshop panelist and has served as a Long Island School Board representative on committees working directly with the New York State Education Department Commissioner. His governance expertise and practical experience provide valuable perspective throughout the leadership search and selection process.
Hilary Grasso
Associate
Hilary Grasso is an Associate with District Leadership Search Consultants and was previously part of the District Wise Search Consultants team. She brings over fifteen years of experience as an education attorney, having served as counsel to public school districts, private schools, charter schools, and parents.
Hilary is a former School Board member (2019–2025) and served multiple terms as Board President, giving her direct governance experience and a deep understanding of Superintendent and administrative leadership responsibilities. She also serves as an adjunct professor of education law and special education law at St. John’s University School of Law, as well as an adjunct professor of legal writing at Columbia University School of Law.
In addition, Hilary is a trained mediator and former negotiations instructor for both public and corporate clients. She is actively involved in community volunteer work and brings a thoughtful, legally informed perspective to leadership searches and Board advisory work.
Dr. Lorna Lewis
Associate
Dr. Lorna Lewis is an Associate with District Leadership Search Consultants and was previously part of the District Wise Search Consultants team. She began her career as a physics and mathematics teacher and went on to serve in multiple senior leadership roles on Long Island, including Superintendent of Schools for the East Williston Union Free School District, Plainview–Old Bethpage Central School District, and Malverne Union Free School District.
Dr. Lewis is a past President of the New York State Council of School Superintendents (NYSCOSS) and is widely recognized as a leading voice for inclusion and equity in public education. She is a founding member of the NYSCOSS Commission on Diversity and Inclusivity and co-chaired its Curriculum Committee. She has received numerous awards in recognition of her contributions to education and has served as a keynote speaker for conferences hosted by NYSSBA and LIASCD.
Most recently, Dr. Lewis served as a steering committee member of the New York State Education Department’s Blue Ribbon Commission charged with developing new graduation requirements for New York State schools. For the past three years, she has also served as a leadership coach for the Women of Color Education Collaborative (WOCEC), supporting and mentoring school leaders. Dr. Lewis is a past President of LIASCD and currently serves on the Board of Directors of ERASE Racism.
